Sick Child Visits

Same Day Sick Visits

We have spots in our schedules for same day sick visits.  During the week, please call ahead for an appointment.  You can talk directly to the appointment scheduler if you know your child needs to be seen.  If you have questions and are unsure if a visit is needed, you can discuss your child's symptoms with the triage nurse first and she will help you decide if a visit is needed.  On Saturdays, we have sick walk-in clinic from 8-10 am in the Wilmington office.

After Hours

After hours, you can reach a triage nurse by calling our regular office number or submitting a request through the website. The triage nurse will listen to you describe what is occurring with your child, ask appropriate medical questions, and advise you on what action to take. She can consult with the doctor on call when needed. Often, we can save you an ER visit. If it is safe for you to continue caring for your child at home for the present, our on call team will advise you on when to have your child seen in the office and what new or concerning symptoms should prompt an immediate call back.

Any time you take your child to an Emergency Department or to an Urgent Care facility, we ask that you please tell the staff there that Carolina Pediatrics of Wilmington is your child’s primary care physician and ask that records of this visit be sent to us. It is also advisable to ask for a copy of your visit summary to take with you and bring to us as Urgent Care facilities often do not send any records. A complete medical record of all care your child receives both in our office and outside it is essential to us in meeting our goal of providing the highest quality pediatric health care.
